How To Pick Out An Outfit When You Have No Idea What To Wear.
November 24, 2020
Ohhh yes we’ve all had those moments when we look through our wardrobe feeling utterly confused because we don’t know what to wear for the day (if you’re like me then “wardrobe wars” could make you a bit late for occasions). Those moments where picking an outfit for the day begins to feel more like a chore than a fun time (for me it’s fun…even with the wardrobe wars) and you just can’t help but feel so exasperated when you look through your clothes looking for that perfect outfit.
Well, if you’ve ever found yourself in that kinda situation (or its your everyday life) then I think you’ll be more than glad to know that today I’ll be talking about how to pick out an outfit…especially for those moments when you just don’t know. To be honest with you, wardrobe wars happen to even the best of us (even the ones who have their style game nailed,it’s just that inevitable) and so it’s important to know just how you can come out victorious when it happens to you.
Which is why I’ve decided to come up with this list of tips and tricks to help you out with picking out your outfits for the day without having to go through the wardrobe hassle (a quite unpleasant experience if I’m going to be honest with you).
How To Pick Out An Outfit…When You Just Don’t Know.
1.) Consider the occasion: Sometimes it is absolutely necessary for you to do this because no matter how creative you get with your outfits or how well you accessorize; if the outfit doesn’t fit the occasion then it’s quite a waste of creative effort. Now I know this sounds like a regular tip (because it kinda is) but then that’s because it’s a very important one that you just gotta have at the back of your mind for very obvious reasons.
2.) Let your mood decide: Sometimes it’s nice to just let go and dress according to how you feel at a certain point in time. Perhaps you’re not at your best mood and you don’t feel like you want to be around bright colours, then you can totally go for the darker colours in your wardrobe and try creating the darkgoth look or maybe you feel like looking your total best, then you can go all diva and pick out the best pieces in your wardrobe (I do this one a lot, mood dressing in general and diva dressing in particular).
3.) Try experimenting: Nothing bad with trying something new from time to time, and let’s be honest with ourselves, a good number of times when we don’t know what to wear…it’s because we’ve fallen into a particular outfit routine (usually subconsciously but still). So, when you find yourself not knowing what to wear because you’ve fallen into the routine, then the best thing for you to do is find a way to break it and what better way than experimenting? Maybe you can buy new pieces or work with what you have and create something that you would like. Trust me, you should give it a try.
4.) Restyle what you got: Just like the point above, restyling your clothes is just like experimenting, except with one catch; you aren’t buying new clothes (unless totally necessary) but rather, you’ll be working with what you already have. Maybe you have this outfit you always wear a certain way, no harm in switching up a bit and trying to wear it some other way. The main thing to note about restyling outfits is that it’s meant to be fun and it’s mean to be you being you. If you’re interested, I have a few tips to help you out, just click here.
5.) Wing It: My favourite trick in the book (well, second to mood dressing), sometimes you have no idea whatsoever and you really need to find something to wear ASAP. If you’re ever in that kinda situation, then my best advice for you is to just go ahead and wing it, trusting nothing but pure instinct to help you out. I know it sounds crazy and that planning your outfits (especially for occasions) is quite the necessity, but then there will be times when you won’t have a plan and you’ll just have to trust yourself and wing it. Now, although I said winging it doesn’t really need a plan and relies on spontaneity; I feel it necessary to note that even if you don’t have a plan, you must have some sort of goal in mind (a picture of how you want to look in this case) that will guide you while you’re trusting your instincts.
7.) Play around a bit: Look through your wardrobe, check out all the available options and see which one you like the most. If that’s not enough for you, you can go ahead to try them all on and model them for yourself in front of the mirror, or in front of your sisters (whichever one you prefer). This is the most stressful one out of them but it’s also most effective (in terms of providing you with a fun way keep boredom away and giving you an up close view of how the outfits would look on you, helpful with the choice making).
8.) Just do you and have fun: Choosing an outfit for the day is not a do or die affair and shouldn’t be treated as such so no matter where you’re going; make sure to have some fun when picking out an outfit and just be yourself. Trust me when I say that it’s the best thing you can do for yourself.
And there you have it, tips and tricks to help you pick out an outfit when you don’t really know what to wear, hopefully you’ll be able to apply most of the tips here and they’ll work for you like they do for me😅.
